The Coffee
In the western part of central Colombia, within the municipality of Planadas, lies a triangular shaped farm named Tres Esquinas run by Albeirson Prada Devia. A third generation coffee farmer, Albeirson bought his own farmland in 2000, began partnering with the green coffee exporter Caravella in 2010, and planted his first Gesha crop in 2016; leading us to now be able to serve this new Colombian Geisha to our community at Loyal in 2024.
Hard-working and meticulous, Albeirson has trained his team to handpick cherries only at the peak of ripeness after which they are floated to ensure any unfit fruits don’t make it any further in the process. The Geisha cherries are then fermented for somewhere between 42 and 48 hours. After this initial fermentation, the beans are pulped and fermented again for the same time frame before finally being lightly washed, leaving a thin layer of mucilage on the beans while they dry on covered patios. Before leaving the farm, Albeirson will hand-sieve the coffee to ensure only the best beans make it into the shipment.
The persistent passion put into the coffee from Tres Esquinas can be tasted in the brew.
