Huehuetenango is located in the highlands of western Guatemala, near Mexico. Here the subtropical highland climate contributes to some amazing coffees. Mr. Octavio Rafael Herrera Ordonez farmed coffee for over 25 years. Now retired, the 2nd and 3rd generation of his family continue the tradition today. The Herrera family have over 50 years of experience in growing coffee. The family has been pushing the quality of the coffee processing allowing their plants to bring forth their best qualities. They have even started releasing honey bees on the farm to increase the quality of the coffee cherries. The bees evenly pollinate the coffee trees which in turn creates a more even fruiting period. This blend of Caturra and Bourbon tends to lead to more complexity in the cup. This coffee has a bright and vibrant acidity, syrupy body and a rich sweetness. We taste notes of ripe blackberry and strawberry, with a caramel sweetness.
