The Farm

Loyal Coffee’s oldest standing coffee producer relationship hails from the southwestern Oromia region of Ethiopia, called Abana Estate. The name Abana translates from Arabic to mean ‘our fathers,’ which honors the birthplace of Arabic coffee. The beans themselves were named Anderacha after the river that borders the Abana estate. In the rainy season, the Anderacha River overflows and brings new life to the surrounding community, much like how Loyal strives to bring life to our community through coffee.

From the local community to the surrounding ecology, Abana Coffee is giving back in waves. Since their birth in 2009, Abana has been using their profits to invest in the neighboring town of Gera. 1,500 procedures have been performed in partnership with Abana, from correcting cataracts to diminishing dental needs. A preschool and sports field have also been built in correlation with Abana’s donations.

Another unique aspect of this Natural processed coffee, after floating the coffee to remove any unripe cherries, the coffee is set aside for 48 hours to rest before being dried on raised beds. This rest contributes to sweetness, complexity, a body with depth, and incredible balance.
