The Farm
The country of Ethiopia is a federation broken up into self-governing regions, much like the states within America. Unlike most places in the world that draw borders based on geographical markers, Ethiopia’s 12 regions are defined solely on the language and ethnicity of its inhabitants. The second smallest region, with a population of 4 million, is Sidama. Within Sidama is the town of Bensa where the farmer of our new coffee lives. Admasu Arago is a second generation coffee farmer participating in the growth of a crop that is 60% of the region’s economy. This year’s crop is his first to be exported, previously having only sold his wares locally. It is a 74158 varietal that’s been naturally processed.
